Snow, Skills, Survival: The Nordic/Backcountry Edge

The Nordic/Backcountry Program trains patrollers in key skills for safe and effective backcountry and cross-country operations. With a focus on OEC, MTR, Avalanche Awareness, and Search and Rescue, the program ensures readiness for challenging winter environments. Patrollers learn to apply the ALAAST framework to guide rescue efforts—from alert to transport—whether the mission lasts an hour or overnight.

Powered by People: The Nordic/Backcountry Patrol Experience

The Nordic/Backcountry (NBC) Program supports a wide range of human-powered ski patrol activities. Whether covering groomed Nordic trails at alpine resorts or Nordic centers, patrolling remote backcountry on public lands, or supporting events like multi-day ski tours, races, and ski mountaineering competitions—NBC patrollers are there.
